Pollen Allergies? These Tips Can Help!

Pollen allergies are caused by pollens from trees, which can just be carried away by wind or insects. When this pollen present in air land in a person's eyes, nose, lungs, skin, etc, some people react to it with an allergy owing to their body's sensitivity. They can cause less severe symptoms like eye irritation, sneezing, coughing, etc to more severe symptoms like allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma and allergic conjunctivitis.

There are five major tips that can be followed by allergy sufferers.

1. Consumption of local honey has proved to be effective in considerably reducing or sometimes even eliminating the pollen allergy. Anecdotal evidence suggests that honey naturally contains pollen by-products, which can serve to act as a vaccine, thus helping the sufferer in building immunity to pollen. It is recommended to take a tablespoon of local honey twice a day for a few months before the start of the allergy season.

2. In case of identifying the exact cause for the allergy, an allergy shot will serve best. If not, a skin or blood test can be done to identify the symptom triggering allergens. These allergens can later be injected in small amounts over a period of time. Eventually, the reaction will have a less severe effect.

3. The allergy sufferer can also take measures to minimize the pollen exposure by staying indoors most of the time, closing all doors and windows especially while travelling, drying the laundry in a machine rather than outside, dusting house and bed completely, avoiding peak pollen timings or even areas, vacating to a less pollen location like beach, sea, etc.

4. In addition to the above, medication must not be neglected in order to lower the symptoms. There are many prescription as well as over-the-counter medications. However, it is recommended to consume drugs after consulting a pharmacist. It is good to stock the medications well before, since there may be a shortage during the season, owing to its high prevalence among people.

5. Acupuncture or chiropractic therapy can be tried by choosing a good practitioner, well experienced with allergy and sensitivity elimination and reprogramming technique. This has proved to be very effective in many people, within a short time. Besides, even without medications and harmful side effects, people have experienced good improvements and have seen their symptoms disappear.

Pollen allergy is very common, but sufferers can easily alleviate the symptoms or even get rid of them.
